We have previously written about how co-working company WeWork has recently branched into education and consultancy Bisnow’s focus on co-working. Campfire, a Hong Kong-founded global network of shared spaces, has taken the next step with the launch of ‘Campfire Campus’.
The Campus is a hub that combines a co-working space for parents with educational resources for children. The first of two planned Campfire co-learning sites will open soon in the Hong Kong district of Tseung Kwan O. The format aims to help parent-preneurs – those who want to work as well as spend quality time with their children. The campus will be home to different education providers, including early-years childcare. There will also be a learning centre with tuition in varied subjects such as languages, coding, dance, architecture, and music. The campus will also include a food and beverages area, in addition to co-working space. The idea is to allow the increasing number of working parents to find greater work-life balance. It also aims to address the difficulty in Hong Kong of accessing extracurricular and pre-school education, due to a shortage of spaces.
In the two years since its founding, Campfire has grown to include 20 spaces, including those that focus on co-living and co-retail. All of the spaces work on a collaborative model. This includes the Campfire Campus, where educators will focus on collaborative learning methods, with teachers and students playing an equally active role in the learning process.
Takeaway: Recently, co-working spaces have seen explosive growth. At the same time, there is increasing need for flexible child-care solutions that create improved work-life balance. Campfire is one solution for parents needing flexible childcare. The company has recently opened a co-working space in London, and is planning to expand further. Will this be the future of work?
